Personal responsibility when evoking natural power

Some of you may be new to magic and witchcraft. While you are enjoying the abundance of knowledge that has been made available via the internet, books and social media, you may be feeling like you are ready to take the next step and actually make some magic? Allow me to share with you a few important things I wish I had not just known, but also understood, when I started practising magic many moon ago.

Often when we our magical studies we may hear reference to a set of laws or principles we should be aware of when raising and directing evoked power. These laws often referred to as natural lore. Often, it's something we read and believe we understand but it's not till we are faced with the consequences of our actions, that we realise that maybe we had missed the finer points and details.

The number one rule most students of magic are taught early in their studies and hopefully BEFORE they begin casting spells or performing magic is the simple but all important concept that what you put out comes back to you. This is the basis of everything really, the idea that the energy you send out is the energy that will return to you. But in practice it can sometimes take a few mistakes before we truly learn its value. A more accurate way of explaining it is to understand that " You are personally responsible for the energy you send out or evoke". Meaning you must be willing to face any consequences that may come back to you as a result or your actions. That may sound a little scary to some but it's import to understand that magic and intent are powerful things but both are much more powerful when combined with knowledge and an undertaking of cause and effect.

The second big rule to be aware of is the concept of Free will. This is pretty simple. It is a warning not to direct energy towards another without their permission. This can apply for any situation where you enquire about, direct energy towards, craft spells for or work to manipulate power around or towards someone who is unaware of your actions or who has not given permission for you to do so. It does come back to rule number one, what you send out comes back and I am sure you would not want someone sending energy towards you without your permission or knowledge.

Raising natural power and manipulating it or directing it, via spell casting, crafting or ritual is what we know as magic. It is the combination of intent, power and purpose and when we combine those factors we are working at controlling the natural power, which is all around us, and focusing it towards what it is we want to achieve.

Which brings us to the next rule to be mindful of, Be careful what you wish for!

There is no terms and conditions section we sign when practising magic. We are told the rules which seem very broad and non descriptive, and then we study hard, learn as much as we can and when we feel confident in our own abilities we may begin to practice magic. Sometimes, even when we have crafted the perfect spell, used the exact herbs and the spell has worked perfectly, brought the exact outcome we were asking for, we discover it may not actually be what we wanted after all. For example you cast a spell that you will get the job you have always wanted and you do, but as it turns out your boss is horrible and your co workers are nothing like what you imagined they would be. So while your wish has come true and your employed in the job you have always wanted, you actually quit because you can't handle your boss. This doesn't mean you have failed or that your spell was wrong, it just means that even though you may be able to manipulate natural power in a way that can work for you, you still are unable to control others within your environment.  Reality may not look like you imagined it.

Which bring me to the final concept I wanted to touch on, Cloaking, enchantment and illusion. It is important to be aware that not everyone or everything is who or what it appears to be. There are some magic techniques that others can employ which literally serve the purpose of manipulating how they are viewed by either cloaking there intentions, using enchantment to get what they want or by creating an illusion of what the wish to be. All of these techniques work at the expense of those around them who can be unwillingly caught up in the charade.

Taking responsibility for your own power, means knowing what you are putting out. Understanding the energies you are working with, why you are evoking them and taking note of any possible repercussions can be a good place to start from. Making informed choices with full understanding of all possible actions and reactions means you alone will be responsible for any possible consequences that occur as a result and because you have already acknowledged this you will be happy with the direction you move in.

Invoking natural power for our selves to create change, to power Intention and to work with manipulating energy is an amazing, transformative practice. There are many blessings, magical moments, growth and so much wisdom that can come from harnessing and directing natural energy and power by crafting spells, performing rituals and honouring our selves for our abilities to change and grow.

It is important though, that we be conscious of any ramifications and ready to be hold our self responsible for the magical life we go on to create.
